Danby steps up to help Long-Term Care Homes to help vulnerable seniors, still without proper air conditioners. 

Guelph, ON/ July 22, 2022/  

In 2021, legislation was passed that would require all long-term care homes to have Air Conditioning in residents’ rooms specially help vulnerable seniors. As many as 90 do not have air conditioning in all resident rooms.  

“Being an Ontario based company we wanted to make sure we did what we could to help,” said Danby CEO Jim Estill. He went on to say, “Danby has heard about the seniors’ homes without air conditioning and has set aside inventory for them.”  

According to The Ministry of Long-Term Care, some homes have experienced delays in installing units in all rooms for a variety of reasons, including global supply chain issues, COVID-19 outbreaks and visitor restrictions preventing contractors from entering homes. 

It also said electrical upgrades or changes to building structures are required in some cases.  

Regarding the supply shortage, Estill said this, “Ontario passed legislation that these homes must have air conditioning, but logistics issues and shortages have made it difficult for homes to get air conditioners. We have the inventory and have set units aside to alleviate shortages.” Danby has committed to reserving many units for the next two weeks to allow long-term care homes to help vulnerable seniors and secure what they need to comply with provincial legislation. During that two-week period, Danby has agreed to sell these at preferred prices to expedite getting these Ontarians the relief they need.  

With both window air conditioners as well as portable units, most design issues can be overcome by simply selecting a unit that fits the room. All Danby AC Units come with standard 120v plugs allowing for connection in any standard outlet.
