Senior Product Engineering Specialist – Mechanical, Guelph, ON

The Role:

As a member of the Product Development team you will be an integral part of the development and design of Danby’s next generation of innovative appliances. The Product Engineering Specialist – Mechanical will wear many hats, being responsible for leading product development team activities from concept to production, designing and evaluating parts for manufacture, technical documentation, quality and safety standards, use and care guides, to name a few. You will have the chance to put to the test your technical acumen, as well as the opportunity to collaborate and learn within our wider team of appliance experts in all departments.
Whether it be in the critical core categories of compact appliances, or in the company’s exciting new ventures into new markets, there is a wide variety of projects to get your teeth into and have a real impact on the success of the company.

About You:

We are looking for someone who shares our passion for creating great looking, great functionality, easy-to-use consumer appliances that offer real value for our customers. You will have impressive technical expertise and mechanical aptitude, with direct experience of manufacturing processes, especially plastic molding processes (such as injection, vacuum-forming and structural foam.) You will be well versed in process selection to optimize function and cost, including selecting resin types and working with toolmakers to resolve gating types/location and flow issues.
You will be highly motivated and self-directed; capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing your work with minimal supervision. You are comfortable taking ownership of a project, and can demonstrate project management duties in the past. 3D Modelling and drafting in SolidWorks is second nature to you, but so is getting your hands dirty in the workshop manually prototyping and testing to prove out your theories in the real world.
Naturally, you will have strong recording and documentation skills and be completely at home in MS Office and expert proficiency at 3D modelling in SolidWorks.

What You’ll Need:

• College degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2 years direct experience of manufacturing methods
• Excellent mechanical aptitude
• Experience in plastic molding processes and related part design
• Expert proficiency at 3D modelling in SolidWorks
• Must be able to demonstrate strong project management skills
• Technical knowledge of appliance and refrigeration products would be considered an asset
