1. Disinfect Sponges

2. Reduce Onion Tears

The only tears in the kitchen should be tears of joy when your meal turns out to be amazing, not the ones that come from cutting an onion. Prevent these tears by cutting off the tips of the onion and microwaving it for around 30 seconds.

3. Increase Citrus Juice

Whether you are making lemon ginger shots, key lime pie, or a paloma, you will want every drop of juice! Increase your outtake by microwaving your lemon for 10 seconds or so. Once it cools down, slice it in half and squeeze away. For larger fruits, like grapefruits and oranges, a few more seconds may be required.

4. Revive Stale Bread

Keeping bread fresh is a losing battle, as many factors influence the shelf life. Typically, bread kept at room temperature lasts between 3–7 days, depending on ingredients, type of bread, and storage method. Revive your stale bread by wrapping a moist paper towel around it and microwaving it for 10 seconds. Remove the paper towel and serve! 

5. Dry Herbs 

Don’t let those fresh herbs from your garden or the grocery store go bad. Dry them by placing 4-5 sprigs between two dry paper towels, and microwaving them for 2-3 minutes. At this point, they should be dry enough to crush or grind.
