Danby’s story begins in 1947 as a small manufacturer of electrical appliances in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. To further expand and grow the business, Danby began importing a number of new products to add to their product line including freezers imported from Italy. As the importing business soared, the manufacturing side took a backseat and in 1981, around the time when operations were moved to a new location in Guelph, Ontario, Danby became a sole importing business.
Sales continued to grow in Canada, as did the number of employees to the point where they Danby built a new facility just outside of Guelph on Whitelaw Rd. where they still reside today. With the goal of expanding sales and product distribution in the US, Danby opened a facility in Findlay, Ohio in 1992 under the name Danby Products Incorporated.
Then in 2010, Danby purchased Initiron in Foxboro, Massachusetts which helped to expand the business into new markets with the MicroFridge® product. Soon after, Danby also launched a line of commercial appliances under the ColdTech Commercial brand.
We’ve come a long way from the small manufacturer in Montreal and, looking forward, we have the vision and direction for a strong future ahead! Danby was privileged to celebrate their 65th anniversary in 2012 and, in the same year, opened a sourcing office in Guangzhou, China, which has been a huge step forward for the company for product development and quality.
